Things to Consider in Picking the Right Wall
Your personality has a lot to do with how you decorate your interior, as it can play a significant role in how you feel about space design. A personal touch to something to a blank wall, a piece of wall art, an item of clothing, or even a flower, can make a significant impact on how you feel about a space. In this post, I’m going to focus on interior design and talk about how space and personality need to go hand-in-hand, specifically for you.
I’m going to tell you about the different ways to decorate a space based on personality, and show you how choosing the right way to decorate with personality can make all of the difference.
A Personalized Interior Design Approach for Picking the Right Design for an Individual
We started Point Two Design and our first product, custom city map prints, because we had a hard time finding art that felt personalized. It's easy enough to pop over to Ikea and pick up some generic art on the cheap, but wall space is precious and we didn't want to waste any space with art that didn't tell part of our story. We wanted to fill our walls with conversation starters and with art that inspired us.
So, how should you approach designing a space that reflects who you are and how you got here? What personality needs to be shown and showcased on a room’s accent wall? We typically like to create a mix of wall art pieces we've had custom designed or custom made, a gallery wall with plenty of framed photos and objects we've collected from our travels.
Finding the right place to hang your art
In order to create an inviting aesthetic in your spaces, you need to consider a few things when choosing which piece will hand on each wall. For instance, if you have a room which is not very bright, consider handing your boldest pieces in this room. Choose items with lots of color or better yet, something with a glossy texture to help capture some shine.
If you're not able to paint a dark room but would like to brighten it up without adding a lot of clutter, an excellent option is to install a custom wall mural over your entire wall. It's custom art, personality and full color coverage all in one.
If you have a room that does get a lot of sunlight like a living room or a kitchen, consider adding your most textural art to the walls in this room. Highly texturized pieces will create extra layers of depth and interest.
For rooms that already have a lot of color, try to stick to one color theme, or a minimalist color palette with the art that you choose to install in this room. Alternatively, if you have a room that doesn't have a mix of color, perhaps your space is made up of white walls, then the world is your oyster and you have the freedom to mix and match as many colors within your art as your heart desires. You have the freedom here to fill the entire wall with bright colors and a wide variety of wall art ideas.
Create a cohesive mood and visual texture.
Consider the energy you want to experience as you walk into a room and choose wall art that evokes those feelings. Look for prints, paintings, or wall decor ideas with vibrant colours or lively movement for spaces with a lot of activity, such as family rooms or kitchens. Find objects that evoke a sense of relaxation, such as watercolour paintings or black and white photographs, for more quiet areas, such as bedrooms or bathrooms. Take a look at wall art pieces that integrates natural elements, such as wood, metal and textiles. To add excitement and depth to the living room walls or a guest bedroom, contrast the wall art with the decor and furniture. Mix metallic wall art with clean-lined furniture and understated textiles for an urban or industrial look. Do you want to create a more consistent look or a more modern style? Choose items that go well with the room's furniture, colour scheme, and ambiance. Look for accessories, including candleholders and centerpiece bowls, that complement the shapes, colors or materials in the wall art.
Why is it important for your art to reflect your personality?
The simple answer is that life is too short for boring walls. You spend a lot of time in your home and each piece of art you bring into it should both make you smile, as well as remind you of amazing memories you've made and things you've done. Your art should be a reflection of who you are and showcase your story to everyone you choose to share your space with.
